The Open Field, May 22 (2017)

Bands of brilliant green and warm peach roll toward a deep blue tree line beneath a soft lavender sky. A narrow violet track crosses the foreground, while fine scratched marks lend movement to the broad, open fields. Returning to the same Georgia location on May 22, Gyan Samara shifted his attention from an individual tree to the spacious landscape around it. This oil pastel painting captures the pleasure of discovering another view without needing to travel farther.
