Portrait of Josh (c. 2020) | Fine Art Paper Print | Gyan Samara

An upward gaze lends quiet intensity to this portrait from The Painted Portrait Project. Coral, gold, and lavender shape Josh’s face, balanced by turquoise shadows and the luminous yellow-green of his shirt. Behind him, a deep blue field of coral diamonds creates a lively rhythm beside a calm passage of pale green. The second of Gyan Samara’s portraits of Josh, this work grew from photographs taken in the sitter’s Chicago home. Created around 2020 while the artist lived in the South Loop, the original measures 36 × 36 inches and was painted with acrylic and acrylic house paint, then sealed with an acrylic gloss medium.

Prints are acid- and lignin-free and made to last.
