Chicago Skyline from Bronzeville

Towering clouds roll above Chicago’s skyline, their pale lavender, peach, and yellow edges glowing against an intense blue sky. Painted in oil pastel on birch panel from the rooftop of the artist’s workplace in Bronzeville, this northward view captures the city through the heat of a blazing summer day. Willis Tower rises in deep plum above coral and turquoise buildings, while bright green treetops fill the foreground. Created over two rooftop sessions in temperatures around 95 degrees, the painting carries that afternoon’s fierce light through saturated color and restless, layered marks.
