Around the Bend, Chain O’Lakes

A violet-blue road sweeps through brilliant wetlands, its golden centerline leading toward a quiet stand of trees. Emerald greens, coral grasses, and bright yellow foliage gather around the curve, while expressive marks give the landscape a lively rhythm. Painted around September 22, 2015, this scene revisits one of Gyan Samara’s favorite viewpoints at Chain O’Lakes State Park in Illinois. Returning to the same bend offered fresh possibilities each time: another arrangement of color, another shift of light, another way to remember a familiar place.
