Along the Gravel Road (2024) | Gyan Samara

A solitary tree stands beneath a spacious blue sky, its green canopy rising between freshly worked fields and a pale gravel road. Broad strokes of coral, turquoise, gold, and deep green carry the eye across the foreground, while softly layered clouds lend the scene an unhurried rhythm. Painted on location near Eagle Rock Road, roughly an hour to an hour and a half south of Chicago, this landscape records a stop beyond the suburban edge. Samara pulled off beside farmland to capture the open fields, finding a quiet subject in the meeting of a roadside tree, cultivated ground, and sky. The original painting, believed to measure approximately 16 × 20 inches, is available for purchase at the artist’s Boston studio.
