Water Wheel

Water Wheel (2017) | Gyan Samara

An old working water wheel glows in plum, rose, and rust amid a woodland of emerald and luminous yellow. Sweeping marks carry the eye through the foliage, while ribbons of blue and white suggest water slipping between lavender rocks. Painted at a restored historic property just outside Gainesville, Georgia, this small study was one of two paintings I made there. Its richly layered color captures the intimacy of the spot, where flowing water and an enduring piece of history share a quiet rhythm.
