About the Painting
In Roscoe’s, vivid reds, luminous blues, and lively greens capture the spirit of Boystown, Chicago’s gay neighborhood and Samara’s own close-knit community. Created in oil pastel on birch panel, the painting leads the eye through a sunlit street toward Roscoe’s gay bar on the right, while layered color and energetic marks animate the leafy canopy and brick buildings.
Painted on location over a week one summer, around 2015, the work grew from daily visits before Samara headed to work. This familiar corner becomes a portrait of friendship, identity, and belonging, preserving the affection he holds for a neighborhood he will always know as Boystown.
Printed on acid- and lignin-free paper designed to last, with a natural, textured matte finish that enhances color and depth while preserving clarity. Presented in a handmade wooden frame from Italy.
Please refer to the listed dimensions for the actual size, as display photographs do not accurately represent scale.
