About the Painting
A gently turned face and attentive eyes invite a quiet encounter in this portrait from The Painted Portrait Project. Fine passages of peach, gold, rose, and turquoise build the skin, while deep blue accents define the swept-back hair and a trimmed beard. The pale blue luminescent background gives the closely framed face room to breathe, balancing intricate marks with an understated setting. The work grew from photographs Gyan Samara took of Dana in his Chicago home.
Prints are acid- and lignin-free and made to last.

For greater clarity of facial details and expressive marks, we recommend 30 × 40 cm (approximately 11.8 × 15.7 inches)or 12 × 16 inches. These sizes receive the printer’s dark-green resolution rating.
Larger options include 50 × 70 cm (approximately 19.7 × 27.6 inches) and 18 × 24 inches, which receive the printer’s light-green resolution rating. Fine details may appear softer at these larger sizes, particularly when viewed up close. These enlarged sizes have not been physically proofed by the artist.
Conceived as a companion to the portrait of C.J. Jones, this work can be enjoyed independently or as part of a diptych. Although the sitters do not know one another, their portraits enter a visual conversation through shared colors and contrasting gazes. Hang Dana on the left and C.J. Jones on the right for the artist’s intended arrangement. Each listing is for one portrait; the companion print is purchased separately.
