Clouds Across the Marsh, Chain O’Lakes (c. 2016)

A procession of white clouds curls above a distant stand of violet trees, while blue water opens through copper and golden grasses. Broad passages of color and fine incised lines describe the marsh’s shifting edges, guiding the eye around small islands and into the wider landscape. Created at a much loved overlook in Chain O’Lakes State Park, this painting revisits a familiar view with fresh attention to its spacious sky and winding water. It holds the pleasure of returning somewhere often enough to recognize its shapes, yet still finding a different painting each time.
